Guidelines
The journal club is a practice option as well as a source of inspiration. The presenter has a chance to practice structuring a presentation, mediating scientific information, and hopefully getting into a dialogue on a topic that interest him/her - among friendly colleagues. On this page we list a few general guidelines, tips and some links to pages on presenting.
General guidelines
- Articles should be recently published (not older than 5 years), be published in an international journal, and have relevance to life sciences.
- A link to the journal or the journal itself should be made available to the rest of the journal club a month in advance so listeners can study the article and ask questions after the presentation.
- The education level of the presenter is not important and everyone should have a chance to present if they wish so.
- Teats for the listeners (cake, candy…) are optional, but very welcome (the journal club will provide coffee)!
The Presentation
- The presentation is maximum 30 minutes followed by 15 minutes for questions.
- It is optional to make the presentation available on the web following the presentation date.
- The presentation language is English
- The presentation must be mainly in PowerPoint but other tools can be used (eg. Web).
- The presenter should make an effort to present all parts of the article (Introduction, Materials & Methods, Results, Discussion) being critical and pointing out good sides and bad sides, if he/she notice any.
- It is the presenters obligation to find a replacement if he/she can not present as planned, and notify the JCLS as soon as possible about the change.
