Invitation
On behalf of the organizing committee and the Estonian University of Life Sciences, it is my great pleasure hereby to invite you to participate in the ISAH-2007 event, the XIII International Congress in Animal Hygiene, in Tartu, Estonia, on June 17-21, 2007.
Animal hygiene is a unique scientific interdisciplinary sphere where health and welfare of both animals and humans are closely intertwined and hygienic measures are in service of sustainable animal production, public health and biosecurity.
In most areas the world of science has experienced fast developments in recent years, and animal hygiene is not an exception in that regard. Considering the urgent need for a more flexible and frequent exchange of scientific and practical knowledge as well as the benefits from direct and spontaneous get-togethers of professionals in the field of animal hygiene and related areas, the Estonian organizing team took on the challenge when the Executive Board of the ISAH proposed to convene a congress every second year.
The ISAH-2007 Congress will focus on fresh and topical issues in animal hygiene. In order to cover the majority of different fields of animal hygiene and related areas, the work of the Congress will base on six comprehensive topics. Well-known scientists around the world have accepted our invitation to contribute the Congress as performers of the plenary lectures in the morning sessions as well as chairmen of the following parallel sessions in the afternoon. We have full confidence to expect exciting oral presentations, both invited and proposed by participants. Along with oral sessions poster sessions, undoubtedly of high scientific value, will be organized.
Tartu, the Congress site, with a population of 100,000 in an area of 38, 8 square kilometres is the second largest town in Estonia. One fifth of the habitants of the city are students. Tartu is proud of its university founded in 1632. Tartu is the cradle of Estonian national culture where literature and journalism developed. The first Song Festival was held in 1869 and the Estonian professional theatre was born in 1870. At present Tartu is also an important centre of Estonian intellectual and cultural life. Tartu is famous as a forcing house for science. It can boast many scientific achievements and discoveries. Tartu is full of contrasts. From its historical centre in the classical style the visitor can move in the direction of contemporary architecture or districts of wooden houses having a special aura of bygone times. One of the pearls of Tartu is the Toome Hill – a park in the English style laid out on the site of the ancient stronghold. The River Emajõgi, an important trading route connecting neighbouring peoples for centuries, flows for the length of 10 kilometres through Tartu and adds a very special vividness to its character.
The Congress venue is a newly renovated, well-equipped and internationally-oriented concert and conference centre: Vanemuise Concert Hall.
The patron of the ISAH XIII International Congress in Animal Hygiene is the Minister of Agriculture.
On behalf of the International Society for Animal Hygiene, I have the pleasure to say…
See you all in Tartu, June 17-21, 2007!
